Network Category Cable is high grade Ethernet cable primarily used for telecommunications and Base-T networks. Plenum Ethernet cables can be routed throughout a buildings plenum spaces, such as the space above a suspended ceiling or the space under a raised floor. Tevelec carries a wide range of network category plenum cable and wire products.
ETHERNET CABLE STANDARDS
Ethernet cables are used for data transmission between electronic equipment within many different types of telecommunications and computer systems. Ethernet cable standards are defined by the Electronic Industries Association and Telecommunications Industry Association (EIA/TIA). Cat5 is an unshielded twisted pair (UTP) data cable and is the most recent standard for twisted pair Ethernet cable and the most popular in use today. We also provide ScTP (Stream Control Transmission Protocol) plenum cable for the Category 3 and Category 5e Ethernet cable standards.
Cat5 Ethernet cables are composed of four pairs of copper wire, two of which are used for to deliver communication speeds of up to 100Mbps. For Gigabit Ethernet speeds of up to 1000Mbps, the newer Cat5e ethernet cable standard utilizes all four twisted pairs to attain the increased transmission speed.
